AUTISM FACTS
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a unique and diverse developmental disability that brings with it a spectrum of challenges in social skills, repetitive or restricted behaviors, speech, and nonverbal communication. But don't worry, we're here to help you navigate this colorful world.
According to the CDC, 1 in 31 children are diagnosed with ASD each year. Boys are diagnosed at a rate 4x higher than girls, generally due to the way symptoms present in early childhood. Symptoms of ASD are typically evident between 12-24 months, but some individuals show signs a bit earlier or later.
Early intervention is key to making progress in communication, social skills, and behavioral challenges. Together we can make a positive difference in their lives, one wave at a time!
FOCUSED and COMPREHENSIVE CARE
Autism affects each individual differently, however, Autism is diagnosed at one of three levels:
Level 1: Requiring Support
Level 2: Requiring Substantial Support
Level 3: Requiring Very Substantial Support.
Based on the level of diagnosis and severity of needs, ABA will be delivered at a focused or comprehensive intensity.
Focused: 10-25 hours per week of ABA treatment
Comprehensive: 25-40 hours per week of ABA treatment
PARENT AND CAREGIVER WORKSHOPS
Parents and caregivers play a vital role in supporting their child’s success both in the therapy setting as well as in generalized settings such as home, school, and community settings. Parent and caregiver workshops provide 1:1 training and support on ABA principles that can be integrated into everyday life. Group workshops allow parents with similar interests a chance to collaborate with other parents and support one another in their journey.
SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS
Social skills groups provide opportunities for children and adolescents with autism to learn necessary skills for independent living including social communication, social interaction, and coping skills. Social skills groups aim to integrate typically developing peer models as well as siblings to facilitate modeling of age appropriate behavior and leisure skills.

Training & Professional Development
THE BASICS OF AUTISM AND INCLUSION
This training session is intended for community organizations who wish to increase their staff’s awareness of autism and learn inclusive practices to implement in their organization. Examples include churches, summer camps, first responders, and child care providers.
AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS IN THE EDUCATIONAL SETTING
This professional development series is designed to provide an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorders and application of Applied Behavior Analysis principles in the educational setting for teachers, administrators, and other school staff. By the end of the series, educators will be able to identify the characteristics of ASD and challenging behaviors associated with ASD as well as be able to differentiate between reinforcement and punishment as consequences for behavior. Educators will also be able to identify key concepts of Applied Behavior Analysis to directly implement in the educational setting and integrate ABA principles with SEL principles for a multidisciplinary approach to client learning.
TRANSITION PLANNING FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS
This professional development session will introduce participants to Social Stories™ for children and adolescents with autism. We will focus on writing narratives for transitions and address age and grade level specific issues. We will also discuss how to use Social Stories™ as a packaged approach with other evidence-based strategies. Sample stories will be reviewed, and participants will be able to collaborate with other educators in their grade level or content area to practice writing in breakouts. Feedback will be provided during the breakout sessions and as a whole group followed by Q&A.
SUPPORTING CLIENTS WITH AUTISM THROUGH A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH
While ABA therapy and school interventions differ somewhat in execution, they serve the same purpose to help the client be more successful by decreasing target behaviors and increasing desired or replacement behaviors. When interventions are viewed through a multidisciplinary lens, client have a more well-rounded system of support. This session will cover a variety of objectives including changing perceptions of outside agencies, building mutual respect for all members of the client’s team, understanding the differences and similarities in ABA therapy and school-based interventions, increasing communication and collaboration, and identifying the positive effects on the client. District and school level staff will benefit from the information discussed as it requires all members supporting a multidisciplinary team approach for it to work efficiently and effectively. The session will include a presentation of data and information, video examples, group discussions, and interactive activities.
